My Experience of a Day Tour to Koh Larn – Coral Island Near Pattaya

Koh Larn, situated in the gulf of Thailand is a paradise coral island. This island is about 4 Km long and 2 km wide. The terrain of Koh Larn is mountainous and roads are narrow with brick pavements. Some motorways are really steep and its really a task to ride a two wheeler there.

How I reached Koh Larn –

Day 1 – Landed Bangkok, took a private taxi to Pattaya. It took about 2 hours to reach the city. After hotel check-in I relaxed at the pool side.

Day 2 –  Took a speed boat from Bali Hai Pier to Tawaen, Koh Larn. It took about 15 mins to reach the island. One can also opt for a ferry/boat to the island which takes around 45 mins. and quiet cheap.

  • Cost of speed boat (per boat) from Bali Hai Pier to Koh Larn – BHT 2500 (approx. INR 5000)
  • Cost of Ferry/Boat(per person) from Bali Hai Pier to Koh Larn – BHT 30 (approx. INR 60)

After reaching the Tawaen beach, I took a bike for BHT 300 and took off to explore the island.

There are 6 beaches in Koh Larn island with white sand and clear blue water –

  1. Samae
  2. Tonglan
  3. Naul beach
  4. Tien Beach
  5. Tawaen beach
  6. Na Ban village & Pier

Koh Larn is a silent island and mostly visited by Europeans. The food and drinks are decently priced and one can enjoy beach hopping on a two wheeler in bikinis 😛

Some roads are extremely steep and makes it really difficult to ride. But, it was so much fun enjoying the view with cool sea breeze.

This island is known as the coral island but, could not explore it due to time crunch. I took a speedboat back at 6 pm from Nan Ban pier to Pattaya city. The sea was relatively rough on my way back to the city. Some waves did hit our boat so hard that it toggled and luckily balanced. During transit, i did lose my slipper to the ocean 😛

Must admit, it was a bumpy fun ride!

  • Seems like it's quite a long journey to get there but seeing your photos, it's worth it! Thailand beaches always look like paradise. The turquoise waters are unreal. :)

  • I am a bit scared of bumpy rides (believe me, I have been in rough ones) but I think I would brave the waves for a place like this. It is the firs time I hear about island but it sound like a beautiful island gateway close to Bangkok. Really enjoyed your post!

  • I didnt know there’s so much to do in Pattaya. Always avoided that place when in BKK but I guess I’ll have to visit one day!

  • I like when there is possibility to have day trips to the beaches :) Then you can see much more and don't need to stay overnight :)

  • Thailand has so many islands unexplored and even unheard!! I haven't heard about this gorgeous island until I stumbled upon your page. I love the clear blue island and the fact it is quite silent. I don't like crowded beaches, so this is a beach added to my Thailand list!! Wonderful recommendations and you look stunning!!

  • oohhh!!1 drafting my thailand itinerary as well. and Im definitely looking into including beaches too. This seems to be a great place to see. Thanks for this!
